Summary of the Story
The story of the Prodigal Son, found in Luke 15:11-32, tells of a young man who asks his father for his inheritance while the father is still alive. The father grants his request, and the son leaves home to use up his wealth in reckless living.
After experiencing a severe famine, the son finds himself in deep poverty and realizes his mistakes. He decides to return home, hoping his father would take him back to, at the very least, work as a servant.
When he returns, his father sees him from a distance, filled with compassion, runs to embrace him. The father celebrates his son’s return with a feast, declaring that his son, who was lost, is now found.
Have you ever felt like The Prodigal Son?
Many of us resonate with the story of the Prodigal son. Having grown up in the faith, turned to the world (which didn’t have anything for us) and returned back to The Father sometimes with the same shame that we assume The Prodigal Son had returning back to his father.
But like the father in the story of the Prodigal Son, the God we serve is also gracious and merciful when we, in a full change in heart posture, turn back to Him.
